AB  - Inserto en el campo de la historiografía, el objeto de este trabajo es analizar la vinculación entre la acción colectiva de las naciones originarias de Norteamérica y la revisión crítica del pasado americano, específicamente de las interpretaciones sobre la conquista del Oeste. Expone el tratamiento denigratorio de los pueblos ancestrales proyectado por la historiografía decimonónica hasta bien avanzado el siglo XX. Identifica a la coyuntura de la lucha por la consecución de los derechos civiles, en los años sesenta, como una etapa matricial en la conformación de la conciencia india. Señala el rol protagónico de las organizaciones militantes nativas que,fundadas en una visión alternativa y crítica del pasado, llevaron a cabo un conjunto de iniciativas encaminadas a la emancipación y autogobierno de los pueblos ancestrales. Estas acciones contribuyeron a construir la memoria de la resistencia de los pueblos nativos de Norteamérica.
AB  - Inserted in the field of historiography, this work analyzes the link between the collective action of the original nations of North America and the critical revision of the American past, specifically of the traditional narratives related to the conquest and expansion towards the West. It exposes the denigratory treatment of ancestral peoples projected by nineteenth-century historiography until well into the twentieth century. The article identifies the period of the struggle for civil rights, in the sixties, as the stage of shaping the Indian conscience. It points out the leading role of the native militant organizations that, based on an alternative and critical vision of the past, carried out a set of initiatives aimed at the emancipation and self-government of ancestral peoples. These actions contributed to building the memory of the resistance of the native peoples of North America.
