Representaciones del Gran Chaco en viajeros de la década de 1870 : las navegaciones de Emilio Castro Boedo y Arturo Seelstrang

| Resumen: | En el presente trabajo analizaremos las representaciones del territorio y los habitantes del Gran Chaco que se construyen en dos escritos de fines del siglo XIX: la obra Estudios sobre la navegación del Bermejo y colonización del Chaco (1873) de Emilio Castro Boedo, y el Informe de la Comisión Exploradora del Chaco (1877), de Arturo Seelstrang. Nos interesa preguntarnos de qué manera estos discursos interactúan con el proceso de incorporación material y simbólica de la región chaqueña en el territorio nacional y con las diferentes representaciones que se construyen en esta época acerca del lugar de Argentina en el mundo. ¿Qué expectativas se depositan en la región chaqueña y con qué imaginarios se relacionan? ¿En qué medida estos discursos recrean tópicos heredados de los discursos previos ligados a la conquista y colonización de América? In the present work we will analyze the representations of the territory and the inhabitants of the Gran Chaco that are constructed in two writings from the end of the 19th century: the work Estudios sobre navegación del Bermejo y colonización del Chaco (1873) by Emilio Castro Boedo, and the Informe de la Comisión Exploradora del Chaco (1877), by Arturo Seelstrang. We are interested in asking how these discourses interact with the process of material and symbolic incorporation of the Chaco region in the national territory and with the different representations that are built at this time about the place of Argentina in the world. What expectations are deposited in the Chaco region and with what imaginaries are they related? To what extent do these speeches recreate topics inherited from previous speeches linked to the conquest and colonization of America? |
