El problema del mal contemporáneo y el papel de la obediencia. Reconsideraciones sobre la banalidad del mal

| Resumen: | La banalidad del mal no sólo constituye un tópico intensamente debatido en relación con el caso Eichmann, sino que también resulta de relevancia para esclarecer el fenómeno contemporáneo del mal. Desde esta perspectiva, procuramos indagar en el papel de la obediencia en esta nueva modalidad del mal, mostrando a la vez que su análisis se remonta al libro de Arendt sobre el totalitarismo, encontrando en el hombre masa devenido hombre normal durante el siglo pasado un antecedente insoslayable. Partiendo de estas afinidades, examinamos la especificidad del mal configurado en torno de los hombres normales y de la banalidad del mal en particular en lo que respecta a los motivos, al rol de la iniciativa personal y al tipo de obediencia implicada. The banality of evil is not only an intensely debated topic in relation to Eichmann's case, but it is also relevant for clarifying the modern phenomenon of evil. From this perspective, I inquire about the role of obedience in this new modality of evil, showing at the same time that its analysis goes back to Arendt's book on totalitarianism, finding in the mass man turned normal man during the last century an unavoidable antecedent. Starting from these affinities, I examine the specificity of the normal men's evil and the banality of evil in particular with regard to motivations, to personal initiative, and to the type of obedience involved. |
