AB  - A la luz de sus autodefiniciones, se puede advertir el devenir del movimiento zapatista desde una organización indígena-campesina, democrática -y de tinte "multicultural"-, a una fuerza indígena-popular de carácter democrático y anticapitalista. La característica que especifica al movimiento es el haber hecho del problema de "los pueblos indios" una cuestión social y política al mismo tiempo, sin reducirla a un conflicto jurídico-político con el Estado. En el marco de los debates y polémicas -académicas y políticas- generados en los últimos años en torno a este devenir, nos propusimos explorar el proceso, enfocándonos en las relaciones entre las comunidades zapatistas en movimiento, y la sociedad civil mexicana
AB  - In light of their self-definitions, we can notice the evolution of the Zapatista movement from an indigenous peasants, and dye-democratic "multicultural" - a popular Indian-force democratic and capitalist. The feature that specifies the movement is to have made the issue of "indigenous peoples" a social and political issue at the same time without reducing it to a legal-political conflict with the state. In the context of academic debates and controversies, and policy-generated in recent years on this evolution, we set out to explore the process, focusing on relations between the Zapatista communities in motion, and Mexican civil society
